What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a scientific protocol proven to be effective in helping clients manage overwhelming emotions, control self-destructive behaviors, and improve interpersonal relationships.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative therapeutic approach that has been proven to be effective in reducing the long-lasting effects of distressing memories by developing adaptive coping mechanisms.
What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is an approach to healing traumatic experiences and their impact on the body. In this approach, the therapist creates a safe space for the client’s nervous system to explore what it may need to gain an expanded ability to tolerate distress while releasing trauma and suppressed emotions that have been stored in the body. More information can be found about Somatic Experiencing at: traumahealing.org

What is Sand Tray Therapy?
Sand Tray Therapy is a modality used where clients connect with imagery and metaphor as they create a word in a tray of sand using a variety of miniature objects, symbols, animals and/or characters. The therapist maintains an atmosphere of curiosity as clients explore strengths that they have, barriers they may be facing, and possible solutions they may be seeking.
What is Trauma? “Big T” and “little t”

“Big T” trauma refers to types of trauma experienced from a “big” event. “Big T” trauma examples:
• birth trauma
• fighting in a war
• surviving a natural disaster
• invasive medical procedures
• surviving a rape or other sexual attack
• surviving sexual, emotional, or physical abuse
• surviving a life threatening car accident or injury
• surviving a physical attack such as a robbery or beating

“Little t” trauma refers to types of trauma experienced from “smaller” events. These tend to get less of our attention, but when the “little t” traumas build up because we’ve lacked the time or ability to process them, they can affect us just like “Big T” trauma. “little t” trauma examples:
• car accidents
• going through a divorce or a break up
• ongoing emotional abuse, neglect or conflict
• experiences of shame, humiliation, or being left out
• being betrayed by a family member or close friend
• losing your job unexpectedly
• not feeling cared for
• moving
